Tim Stoney has had a diverse career spanning more than 30 years in journalism, communications, and education, which gives him a unique perspective on the Australian media and communications landscape.
Tim has worked in all forms of media. At the Herald Sun, Melbourne’s largest newspaper, he covered a wide range of news and sports, while specialising in legal reporting. He covered news and sports at Network Ten for three years, and was then the Melbourne-based news and sports reporter for SBS World News Australia for four years. During this time at SBS he directed a short film about the lives of Indian students in Melbourne. He then spent five years working at the ABC, initially in TV before moving to Radio Australia.
Tim’s global experience includes commentary and reporting from the Beijing Paralympics and other major sporting championships across Asia and the Pacific Islands. He filed news stories from the Middle East and South East Asia, as well as spending a year in Beijing working for China Radio International.
In addition to Tim’s extensive media background, he brings 15 years’ experience teaching tertiary Journalism and Communications. He holds a Graduate Certificate in Small Group Teaching from the University of Melbourne and has taught at Melbourne, RMIT, La Trobe, Monash and Deakin universities, as well as the Beijing Broadcast University.
Tim has worked with Communication & Media Manoeuvres for the past seven years, where he has conducted training in media interview skills, stakeholder communications, government inquiry preparation and presentation skills with senior executives and spokespeople from government, business and not-for-profit organisations. His easy rapport with trainees and advanced communication skills make him a valued member of the Communication & Media Manoeuvres team.
