Alex Messina

Senior Communications Adviser and Executive Trainer

Alex Messina is a highly experienced and results-driven communications adviser and executive trainer, using his deep experience in government communications and corporate public affairs. He has a solid track record in strategy, risk, issues and crisis management, developed in a range of roles after honing his craft as a journalist and producer.

Alex started his career as a reporter for The Age in Melbourne and covered a wide range of stories over 13 years, across state politics, education, consumer affairs, industrial relations, special investigations and the courts.

Alex then moved into a Victorian Government communications consultant role, where he managed media relations through some very significant public events. Following this, he took on private consultancy in stakeholder engagement and issues management. In this position, he worked on a number of infrastructure projects of state and national significance, with budgets in the hundreds of millions.

After a stint back in local and state government senior public affairs roles, where he managed everything from public safety campaigns to fraud and corruption issues, Alex ran his own specialist consultancy in strategic communications. He then held Head of Corporate Affairs roles at two prominent and issues-rich organisations, where he modernised their approach to media engagement and increased their public voice and credibility.

During his career, Alex also oversaw and developed two TV series for the Seven Network, with 7 million total viewers.

Alex is the Victorian Immediate Past President and a Fellow of Public Relations Industry Australia (PRIA), and a recipient of two PRIA Excellence Awards for issues and stakeholder management.

Alex is a valued and respected member of the Communication & Media Manoeuvres training and consulting team, with incredible experience to bring to our media, issues/crisis management and stakeholder communications training.
